as well we talked about garment factories collapsing, this is also a human right problem, because the people that live around these factories are forced to work for very little money under very unsafe conditions. i can help make a difference by buying my clothing from places that do not support work like this. Or by contributing to bringing awareness to the issue of over worked and under payed garment workers, to those in north america. hopefully by brining awareness others will also buy consciously, encouraging companies to treat their employees more fairly.

post 20-issues studied in this class
this issue has really brought my attention across the ocean into places like Syria, and north korea, where human rights are being violated and little is being done to help. its hard to say what i can do as an individual but perhaps an organization that is specifically geared towards getting people out of countries thats are at war was set up, then i would like to get involved with that.

post 19- important skill
i believe the most important skill that i have learned today is that i am now able to confidently speak out in class. in the beginning of the year i found it intimidating to say anything during class, especially because it was mixed grades. as well de debates , i find, are not as daunting as they used to be. i would feel confident in another class if a debate was part of the course evaluation.

post 18- central theme
i believe that the central theme for this course, was global awareness. we touched on topics across seas like syria and the arab springs movement, but we also touched on topics that were closer to home, like the shootings in Connecticut and the debte about local coffee spots. this class helped to bring in local news and make me aware of the things that are going on around. it also put things in perspective fro me. i have aways just been vaguely aware of Canada s issues, but i now i feel i have a better understanding for the issues around the world.

post 17- gun laws
the gun laws in America are ridiculous. guns are considered unfair in hunting by some people because it give a much larger advantage to the hunter and takes away the chances of loosing game in the hunt. when you put guns into a civil society, you loose the chance of escaping an attacker, police loose their advantage making it harder to control crime, and children in schools have no chance of out running the bullet.
when the gun shooting in Connecticut happened some people came out saying that gun laws need to be revised and gun restrictions need to tighten up. however others argued that teachers need to cary guns in school in order to protect themselves. but thats like saying that if we give them fire they can fight fire. its dumb , plan and simple. take gun laws away. they only hurt and never help and that the fact. it shouldn't be a question anaymore. it help gangs fight cops, gangs fight gangs, it kills kids when they grab their parents guns. Guns are meant for war and if I'm not mistaken most people in america aren't at war with each other
blog 16-terrosim
modern terrorism , is not just a religious aspect. yes it happens because the view of one person are not the same as the other in feeling that ons view is right then terrorism will occur. however i feel that that terrorism,or the act of inflicting terror is down out of the need for power. when one group feels threatened or simply want more power or control, they will lash out and attack the group that is what they feel the answer to this power. that in making another country or group individual afraid, they will enquire more co-operations.
in order for society to throw away this feeling of terror and stop terrorist, the need for more needs to be taken away. people need to realize that greed is not going to help and it make things worse when people are always trying to achieve more. groups have views that are their own views, and it shouldn't be about pushing thoughts about one thing into someone else. free will should be a right that is respected.

post 15- religion/ethics/morals in government
the rule that run a country should be based on what the people of the country feel is right. if ethics and morals are thrown out the window then the point of a government is thrown out as well. in order to govern you need terms or rule to govern with. a set of standards are required to have order n a country. thinking about what is ethically and morally right and wrong while making these rules is essential to a well run country.
however once religion is thrown into the mix, then there seems to be problems. Religion, is a choice that is made by and individual about themselves. it is something that, thankfully, is allowed as a free choice in canada. but since its a free choice there is going to be more that one view of religion in society. therefore making it impossible to choose one and put it into the governmentally system.
now ethics and morals are also somewhat of a personal choice, but one would would generally consider the act of killing someone a morally wrong decision. Where as a legal same sex marriage will not appeal to everyone under the same government. when it comes to government religion needs to stay out in order to please the whole country and to be ethically and morally fair to everyone who lives in it.

post 14-food dumping
food dumping, essentially, is when a wealthy country, such as the USA, imports grain to an underdeveloped country, like brazil, but gives it directly to government who hods it a sells it at high prices to his/ her cictizens. this one does not help the people at all because they are still hungry but are now loosing money for and two because they are paying even more money for food which pushes them even farther down the poverty line.
the worst part about food dumps is that the so called "aid" isnt even needed. most of the time these countries have perfectly good farming land where they can harvest their own highly nutritious food for them selves with government taxes. unfortunately though this land is stripped of its natural wealth and power countries have locals growing food and lumber for their corporations. this is a double affect. meaning that not only is this land being wasted for another country, but none of the farmers are able to sell their own products at a price that will make them a substantial enough price. this not only cuts money from the farmer themselves but as well from the community. because the farmer is only able to make ends meet, he/she doesn't have enough money to go to the market and invest back int the community. creating a count r with little income and hardly any money being put back into it.
these big corporations and power companies need to stop trying to make money off of the poor and need to start actually helping them. if they could use their own land for their products and not some others countries, then the natural resources of the other country can be used to help the farmers their. as well if they donate equipment or offered even knowledge on how to farm affectively and efficiently, the the people would be able to feed themselves and put money back into the community.

post 13-via rail attack
the fact that canada had a potential attack, to me is an eye opener. i have always felt safe and secure in Canada based on the fact we have always been the peace keeping country as well we have very strict laws on guns and artillery. its unnerving to know that a group feels threatened or upset with canada. there is no saying who really planned this attack so we cant fully know why this happened, yet. like in boston canada is now going to be on gaurd. more security os going to be put in and those immigrating to canada wanting to escape their country are going to have an even harder time of getting over.
this attack is not going to help islam. even if this isn't a planned attack coming from islam, the media and gossip is going to reek havack for them. making canada even more of a target because we are now pointing fingers.
perhaps because of our relationship with the states there could be an accusation that we have the same views as them and this is possibly what could have provoked the attack
post 12- boston attack
i believe that this attack has not only put boston on alert but also america. it woke everyone up, including myself, and showed us that the war isn't over seas. that attacks and bombing arnt something that only happens in the middle east. attacks are a very real threat that can happen anywhere.
the people of boston are now going to be afraid to go to their local super market. they will be nervous everywhere they go. Not to mention all those who were permanently injured, and who's families lost a loved ones.much like the shootings this event has rattled not just america but canada as well.

post 11-drone strike
the drone stike that took place in pakistan has brought a lot of attention to itself. Is using drones for attack in war a good thing or a bad thing. well for the team that is using these drones obviously it is a greta advantage. It's driven from a tower miles away meaning that the strike can be far more accurate and almost completely clear of mistakes. being in front of all the screens and having immediate access to those who are also part of running the mission leaves little room for error. as well, and probably the best advantage, is that if the drone gets shot down or fails there is no human life lost.
however Hafiz Gul Bahadar who runs the Datta Khel area( the area that was hit), in protest took away polio vacinations. so even though the attacking side hasn't lost anyone from this mission, innocent civilians are being punished. this is causing strife because te main reason the us is in the war is to help those suffering form it, and this has only hurt them. so one can not look at this situation, pick the black and the white and be done with it. someone is going to have the weigh the options and choose the best decision.

post 10- North korea
North korea is becoming a nuclear threat. the more interfering that is done, whether it is by the united states or not, the worse things will get. In conferencing with south korea, and publicly stating that they will defend the south in an attack from the north, america has already rung a bell with north korea as not someone to be kind with. America set themselves up as an enemy.
I dont think any country should really every intervene with another. It's not there business to run the country, however if there people are choosing to leave, assisting those people would be the most that could be done. otherwise the states should go no farther than talking with north korea in trying to calm them down and prevent a nuclear launch. But with how they have handled themselves with south korea, I believe that they should stay quiet for now and and proceed with caution for the future.

post 9-sexualization of mainstream society
i find that today whether it is on the tv, radio or internet there is some form of sexual exposure. there is the mainstream everyday type, such a modelling. if you flip through the pages of vogue or any magazine really you will surely find some naked women posing for a perfume by a big name brand. it even go s as far to say it is in school. by looking around on civies day at HSC the amount of tight clothing and skin revealed just shows how society went from covering up to putting it all out there. as well if you watch rap videos or even pop music videos you will see scantly clad women running around, and putting a show on for those who are watching. sexuality has become entertainment
then there is the more serious type of sexualization, such as porn. 80% of the worlds internet use is for porn. one of the most useful tools we have today, is being used for sexual pleasure. then you get even more into the sexualization mainstreaming and you can jump right to human trafficking. if women can be used on the internet to help satisfy men then why shouldn't they be bought and used all the time?
as society allows more and more of this type of mainstreaming to happen, there will be extreme issues later on. increased porn use, child pornography, prostitution, and ultimately human trafficking. society is allowing simply things like tight clothing and porn to become a norm, and it shouldn't be, because as time gos on things are going to become increasingly worse

post 8-poverty solutions
Wealthy nation
should be giving aid to these countries with out any strings attached. They should
be giving this money as way of helping these countries and not using just to further
them selves in the working world. There should be a regulation in place that forces
the country to buy the goods being exported out of the developing countries at
the price they are actually worth instead of ripping them off and negotiating a
lower price. The same goes for exporting goods out of these wealthy countries. The
prices of our good should not be raised for the developing countries. Lastly plans
that actually will help stabilize the developing economy in the poorer countries
and hopefully get the government to stop having to cut funding.

post 7- E1 settlement
Israel is planning on building 3,000 new housing units in the controversial
E1 area near Jerusalem. E1 marks the area between Jerusalem and Maaleh Adumim,
making it a strategic zone for both sides.pleasine is not happy with this
decision because they feel it will bring and end to the hope that the two
nations will be able live peacefully with one another.
I absolutly disagree with what isreal is doing. they are making space
for themselves and themselves only, sending a message it seems that they will
not accommodate the Palestinians. By going ahead with construction this
gos against international law as well undermine's the possibility of a viable state
in the West Bank. this will only anger palestine and perhaps break there cease fire. if Israel gos ahead with this they are only asking fro violence and retaliation.
pots 6- Connecticut shooting
when I first heard about the shooting I was a little dumb founded. i couldn't believe that a grown man went in to a junior school and gunned down about 20 children and a few teachers. i was shocked to find out that his mother was actually a teacher there as well.
To hear about this is terrifying because if a man can easily kill a group of young defenceless children in a country thats suppose to be" the land of dreams" and that promotes freedom and safety, it make me wonder what could of caused such a greta act of violence.
in America access to guns is what caused this problem, thankfully in Canada its harder to acquire guns especially automatic ones. why america has such easy access to guns especially after the high school shooting a few years ago is beyond me. it only encourages violence. after the shooting news stations would ask people what they felt about the gun laws and shockingly some people said that if the teachers had had guns they would of been able to defend themselves and the chirldren. but you got to ask if a man went into a school with an automatic rifle when the teachers didn't have guns. what kind of weaponry would be needed to when teachers are armed.
the violence displayed in this school on that friday really opened my eyes to the kind of violence present in society. it taught me that even when someone is not provoked intentionally or even at all no matter who you are or how old you are, violence could be apart of your life. I personally find that scary to think about and it makes me question what kind of society we really are living in.

post-5 WIC
In the WIC I was to supervise the presentation on the film "innocence of muslim". The girls who presented did a good job but unfortunately there first presentation was rushed so they were not able to show a video and a game that my partner and I had set up was not able to be played either. I think the conference is a really good idea. I enjoyed hearing from Mr. Kielburger. I found it very inspiring to see the video from kenya as well the musical presentation was good.
I found the whole a little bit confusing because there was not a run through before hand. I was lost in trying to organize the kids because i wasn't exactly sure what I was doing my self. How ever I think the kids who did participate enjoyed the day over all and found it very educational. Over all the WIC was a good day and I believe the message was passed on.
