post 20-issues studied in this class

this issue has really brought my attention across the ocean into places like Syria, and north korea, where human rights are being violated and little is being done to help. its hard to say what i can do as an individual but perhaps an organization that is specifically geared towards getting people out of countries thats are at war was set up, then i would like to get involved with that.

as well we talked about garment factories collapsing, this is also a human right problem, because the people that live around these factories are forced to work for very little money under very unsafe conditions. i can help make a difference by buying my clothing from places that do not support work like this. Or by contributing to bringing awareness to the issue of over worked and under payed garment workers, to those in north america. hopefully by brining awareness others will also buy consciously, encouraging companies to treat their employees more fairly.

post 19- important skill

i believe the most important skill that i have learned today is that i am now able to confidently speak out in class. in the beginning of the year i found it intimidating to say anything during class, especially because it was mixed grades. as well de debates , i find, are not as daunting as they used to be. i would feel confident in another class if a debate was part of the course evaluation.

post 18- central theme

i believe that the central theme for this course, was global awareness. we touched on topics across seas like syria and the arab springs movement, but we also touched on topics that were closer to home, like the shootings in Connecticut and the debte about local coffee spots. this class helped to bring in local news and make me aware of the things that are going on around. it also put things in perspective fro me. i have aways just been  vaguely aware of Canada s issues, but i now i feel i have a better understanding for the issues around the world.

post 17- gun laws

the gun laws in America are ridiculous. guns are considered unfair in hunting by some people because it give a much larger advantage to the hunter and takes away the chances of loosing game in the hunt. when you put guns into a civil society, you loose the chance of escaping an attacker, police loose their advantage making it harder to control crime, and children in schools have no chance of out running the bullet.

when the gun shooting in Connecticut happened some people came out saying that gun laws need to be revised and gun restrictions need to tighten up. however others argued that teachers need to cary guns in school in order to protect themselves. but thats like saying that if we give them fire they can fight fire. its dumb , plan and simple. take gun laws away. they only hurt and never help and that the fact. it shouldn't be a question anaymore. it help gangs fight cops, gangs fight gangs, it kills kids when they grab their parents guns. Guns are meant for war and if I'm not mistaken most people in america aren't at war with each other

blog 16-terrosim

modern terrorism , is not just a  religious aspect. yes it happens because the view of one person are not the same as the other in feeling that ons view is right then terrorism will occur. however i feel that that terrorism,or the act of inflicting terror is down out of the need for power. when one group feels threatened or simply want more power or control, they will lash out and attack the group that is what they feel the answer to this power. that in making another country or group individual afraid, they will enquire more co-operations.

in order for society to throw away this feeling of terror and stop terrorist, the need for more needs to be taken away. people need to realize that greed is not going to help and it make things worse when people are always trying to achieve more. groups have views that are their own views, and it shouldn't be about pushing thoughts about one thing into someone else. free will should be a right that is respected.

post 15- religion/ethics/morals in government

the rule that run a country should be based on what the people of the country feel is right. if ethics and morals are thrown out the window then the point of a government is thrown out as well. in order to govern you need terms or rule to govern with. a set of standards are required to have order n a country. thinking about what is ethically and morally right and wrong while making these rules is essential to a well run country.

however once religion is thrown into the mix, then there seems to be problems. Religion, is a choice that is made by and individual about themselves. it is something that, thankfully, is allowed as a free choice in canada. but since its a free choice there is going to be more that one view of religion in society. therefore making it impossible to choose one and put it into the governmentally system.

now ethics and morals are also somewhat of a personal choice, but one would would generally consider the act of killing someone a morally wrong decision. Where as a legal same sex marriage will not appeal to everyone under the same government. when it comes to government religion needs to stay out in order to please the whole country and to be ethically and morally fair to everyone who lives in it.

post 14-food dumping

food dumping, essentially, is when a wealthy country, such as the USA, imports grain to an underdeveloped country, like brazil, but gives it directly to government who hods it a sells it at high prices to his/ her cictizens. this one does not help the people at all because they are still hungry but are now loosing money for and two because they are paying even more money for food which pushes them even farther down the poverty line.

the worst part about food dumps is that the so called "aid" isnt even needed. most of the time these countries have perfectly good farming land where they can harvest their own highly nutritious food for them selves with government taxes. unfortunately though this land is stripped of its natural wealth and power countries have locals growing food and lumber for their corporations. this is a double affect. meaning that not only is this land being wasted for another country, but none of the farmers are able to sell their own products at a price that will make them a substantial enough price. this not only cuts money from the farmer themselves but as well from the community. because the farmer is only able to make ends meet, he/she doesn't have enough money to go to the market and invest back int the community. creating a count r with little income and hardly any money being put back into it.

these big corporations and power companies need to stop trying to make money off of the poor and need to start actually helping them. if they could use their own land for their products and not some others countries, then the natural resources of the other country can be used to help the farmers their. as well if they donate equipment or offered even knowledge on how to farm affectively and efficiently, the the people would be able to feed themselves and put money back into the community.
